Sunshine and Fairfirst jointly donate the Mechanical Ventilation and Air Condition System at the IDH
A newly built Mechanical Ventilation and Air Condition System for the Covid-19 ICU II of the National Institute of Infectious Disease (NIID/IDH) donated by Sunshine Holdings PLC and Fairfirst Insurance Limited was officially launched on 12 January 2021 at the IDH premises.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce being an organization which works closely with the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID/IDH), utilizing all strengths of its membership, in providing urgent requirements to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, learnt that there is a long felt need to establish a Mechanical Ventilation and Air Condition System (MVAC) to the newly set up ICU at NIID. On its request, Sunshine Holdings PLC and Fairfirst Insurance Limited, both members of CCC, agreed to share the total project cost of Rs.9.5 million equally.
The handing over of the system, was held in the presence of Mr. Vish Govindasamy, Joint Managing Director, Sunshine Holdings PLC, Mr. Malin Goonetileke, Consultant, Sunshine Foundation for Good, Dr. Sanjeev Jha Managing Director and CEO Fairfirst Insurance, Mr. Sasith Bambaradeniya Chief Marketing Officer Fairfirst Insurance, Dr. Hasitha Attanayake, Director IDH, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Senior Consultant Physician at IDH, Mr. Manjula De Silva Secretary General and CEO of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Suran Fernando, representing IESL.
The NIID (better known as IDH) is the national focal point for clinical management of infectious diseases, in Sri Lanka. Hence, NIID is being considered as the national reference center for COVID-19 patients. In order to improve intensive care capacity, NIID has expanded its services with a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Mechanical Ventilation and Air Condition System was installed on time by the Abans Engineering (Pvt) Ltd under the sponsorship of Sunshine Holdings PLC and Fairfirst Insurance Limited. The Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), Building Services Engineering Sectional Committee of Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka and the Engineering Division of Ministry of Health provided the Project Consultancy support.
