Evolution of the Galaxy Buds Series: A Journey of Listening Innovation

Samsung Electronics, a global titan in technology, has always been at the forefront of innovation. The evolution of its Galaxy Buds series stands as a testament to this legacy, marking significant strides in the realm of wireless audio. From their inception in 2019 to the latest advancements, Galaxy Buds have continuously redefined how we experience sound and interact with our devices.

In February 2019, the original Galaxy Buds made their debut. Designed for those seeking both convenience and quality, these earbuds quickly became an essential accessory. Their compact, round design with glossy texture not only fit comfortably in a pocket but also stayed secure during intense activities, thanks to the added wingtips.

The standout feature, however, was the sound quality. Leveraging Harman’s premium acoustic brand AKG, Samsung delivered audio clarity that closely resembled the original sound. The Adaptive Dual Microphone technology further enhanced the listening experience by adjusting to ambient noise, ensuring users could enjoy smooth audio even in noisy environments.

With up to 6 hours of playtime and an additional 7 hours provided by the charging case, the Galaxy Buds also introduced the convenience of Wireless PowerShare with the Galaxy S10.

A year later, in February 2020, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Buds+. This iteration brought significant improvements, particularly in sound quality. Featuring 2-way speakers with a dedicated tweeter for crisp highs and a woofer for robust bass, the Galaxy Buds+ offered a balanced and dynamic listening experience.

Enhanced with three microphones – one inside and two outside – these earbuds ensured clear communication by effectively reducing external noise. With up to 11 hours of playtime on a single charge and an additional 11 hours from the charging case, the Galaxy Buds+ expanded compatibility to both Android and iOS devices, broadening their appeal.

In January 2021, the Galaxy Buds Pro entered the market, designed to cater to the expanding demand for high-performance wireless earbuds. These wearables featured intelligent Active Noise Canceling (ANC), which significantly reduced background noise, allowing for an immersive audio experience.

The Galaxy Buds Pro’s 2-way speaker system delivered dynamic sound across the entire range, while a new structure minimized wind noise for clearer calls. Samsung’s commitment to sustainability was evident as the earbuds incorporated recycled polycarbonate (PC) into their components.

By August 2021, Samsung had perfected the balance of compact design and powerful performance with the Galaxy Buds2. Weighing just 5 grams each, these were Samsung’s smallest and lightest earbuds yet. Equipped with 2-way dynamic speakers, ANC, and a machine learning-based solution for call clarity, the Galaxy Buds2 effectively blocked out background noise during phone calls. The comfortable fit was ensured by providing ear tips in three sizes and an Earbud Fit Test. The Auto Switch feature allowed seamless connection switching between Galaxy devices without disconnecting the earbuds, adding to the convenience.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro, released in August 2022, offered the most immersive sound experience in the series. With High-Dynamic Range and wireless 24-bit high fidelity (Hi-Fi) audio, these earbuds reimagined how users listen to music. The 360 Audio Recording feature enabled users to capture surrounding sound on smartphone-recorded videos, delivering multi-dimensional audio. Designed to be 15% smaller with an ergonomic fit, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro allowed for comfortable, prolonged use and could easily connect to a Samsung TV or switch to a paired smartphone if a call was received, then reconnect to the TV once the call ended.

In February, Samsung introduced a significant software update for the Galaxy Buds series. This update brought AI technology from the Galaxy S24 series, enhancing hands-free functionality and strengthening the Samsung device ecosystem by connecting the Galaxy Buds series to more products, including the Galaxy Book4 series and Samsung TVs. This development underscored Samsung’s commitment to providing a seamless, interconnected experience for its users.
